Before You Choose
Cut & Light
Proportions, polish and symmetry influence how a diamond handles light. Shape is its outline; cut quality is a separate consideration.
Colour
D–Z grades describe colour in the normal range. Fancy colours use a different grading system. Compare actual stones and setting metals.
Clarity
Inclusions and blemishes are assessed under magnification. Ask how visible they are without magnification, rather than relying on the grade alone.
Carat & Dimensions
Carat measures weight. Face-up measurements and proportions help explain why diamonds of the same weight can appear different sizes.
Fluorescence
Some diamonds fluoresce under UV light. Ask about the appearance of the particular stone in normal viewing conditions.
Reports & Disclosure
Request the grading report details, treatment disclosures and available origin information for the actual diamond. A grading report and a valuation serve different purposes.
A Diamond That Feels Like You
A few preferences are enough to begin. Leave anything undecided.
